01. Context
Attio was founded in London in 2019 by Nicolas Sharp and Alexander Christie and entered general availability in 2023 after three years of intensive development. It officially positions itself as 'the AI-native CRM', and the differentiation is structural, not cosmetic. The foundational thesis: the CRM space is bifurcated between legacy (Salesforce, Dynamics) that are powerful but slow and expensive, and challengers (Pipedrive, Folk) with good UX but rigid models. Attio deliberately positions itself in the middle, the power of a Salesforce data model with the UX and speed of a modern challenger, built with AI as a first-class citizen from day one.
The most structural differentiator is the flexible object model. Unlike Salesforce or HubSpot, where the model assumes 'lead → opportunity → account → contact'. Attio allows you to define any custom object with its own attributes, relationships and workflows. The same workspace can manage the sales pipeline, the fundraising pipeline of a VC fund, hiring, strategic partner relationships and internal projects, all under a single synchronized structure. On top of that, three primitive AI operations accessible at any point: AI Search (natural language queries), AI Update (modifying records by description) and AI Create (creation from free text).
Clients like Lovable, Granola, Modal, Replicate or Legora are references of AI-native companies that run their entire GTM on the platform. In 2025 it launched the Attio App SDK in beta, custom apps deployable directly inside Attio without additional infrastructure, built in React and TypeScript. It is the first CRM to also position itself as a programmatically extensible platform.
02. How we apply it
The applications that come up most often in our projects.
'Engineered' GTM
Sales pipeline + marketing operations + revenue operations for GTM-savvy teams. Greater technical sophistication than the typical HubSpot buyer, ideal for technical founders and RevOps who architect processes.
Venture capital and angel investing
Deal flow tracking, investor relationships, portfolio companies, due diligence. The flexible model allows building a VC CRM without the heavy customization Salesforce would require.
Recruiting and talent pipelines
Lightweight ATS built on the flexible object model. Particularly useful for startups and recruiting agencies that need to adapt the flow to each client.
Partner outreach and BD
Management of strategic relationships, partnership integrations, co-marketing tracking. Cases where a traditional CRM is too rigid for the type of relationship being managed.
Internal tools on App SDK
Building dashboards and custom tools integrated with CRM data, deployed inside Attio without additional infrastructure. The area with the greatest potential for differential value.
03. What changes for you
Attio shares a product philosophy with Notion that is no coincidence: both reject rigid templates in favor of a data model that adapts to the use case, not the other way around. What we design in your Attio workspace follows recognizable principles if you already operate Notion, and vice versa. The practical consequence: your CRM and your knowledge system stop living in silos. Deals in Attio connect with client notes in Notion, delivery projects with fundraising pipelines, the hiring ATS with the internal wiki. It is the integration that in Salesforce + Confluence requires weeks of dedicated configuration.
Where we extract value from your investment fastest is in the orchestration layer. Attio exposes a REST API, native workflows and, since 2025, the App SDK in React/TypeScript for custom apps deployable inside the platform itself. Most enterprise deployments sooner or later need integration with the rest of the stack. Slack, Notion, Make, n8n, vertical tools and AI agents. What we do differently is not stop at Attio: your CRM connects with documentation, automated workflows and AI agents in the rest of your stack so that data flows transversally, not in silos. An Attio-only partner can deliver a well-configured CRM, but the conversation breaks when you have to connect it to everything else.
